Why Every Photographer Needs a Speedlight

You’ll likely encounter problems of not enough light so you’ll need to add some however even when their is plenty of light you can still add them so make your images pop.

  1. Shooting indoors, in low light environments can be a real challenge for any photographer but once you master the how you use your gear you can shoot anyting in any light
  2.  More power, the pop-up flash on most cameras is more for close up stuff due to it’s lack of power and can be a bit harsh light. With Speedlites they give you load more power and the option to bounce the light around you.
  3. Modifiers, one of the cool things is you can use them for off-camera and add a wide range of modifiers to them, for example a large softbox
  4. More control, from power levels of full 1-1 power to 1-126 or lower, Zoom the flash head to both change the angle of the light and gain extra power.
  5. use as a spotlight zoom the flash to it’s max 105mm or 200mm depending on the flash and shoot with a wide angle lens to only light the centre subjects.
  6. using off-camera, just imagine its not different from the studio lights the as it’s triggered remotely allowing you to have more control of the placement of the light
  7. Hi-Speed Sync, this is perfect to add a bit of drama to photos for example its a bright day outside your flash max sync speed is 1/200 your ISO is 200 but to under expose the sky you need to be at say f/16 so now every thing is in focus but you want the shallow depth of field look so with hi-speed sync you can shoot at f/1.4 at ISO 200 and up to 1/8000 of a Sec shutter speed to get the under exposed sky and the shallow depth of field.
  8. ease of use super portable and can fit in your pocket team them up with a lightstand and modifier like the MagMod Magsphere and colour gels you have an instant studio set-up anywere you go.
